Is Figma plugin free?

Yes, the Figma plugin is completely free. You'll need a Tolgee account, which starts with a Free plan automatically. Check pricing for limits and details on paid plans if you need more features.

How do I find the Project API key?

Go to Tolgee platform → top right menu → Project API keys.

Read more about API key generation.

Can I generate key names automatically?

Yes. Users can set up automatic key name prefilling for fast work and better consistency.

They can use any text, separator, or variable. Variables are derived from the Figma structure, for example, "Element name," which takes the name of the string (layer) the user wants to translate.

Users can choose a format style to maintain consistent formatting and modify spacing or capitalization. For example: "Element_name"

How can I preview translated strings in my design?

Download translations from Tolgee and click "Create page copy" to make a new page in your chosen language. For quick switching, select any frame and change the language in the plugin.

How to update screenshots when I change designs in Figma?

Screenshots update when uploading to Tolgee. Select frames and press "Upload".

Note: Don´t forget to connect texts and keys.

How to link texts from Design to existing keys in Tolgee?

Select text → Click link icon (on the right)

Plugin shows matching keys from your platform. Choose one to connect. You can disconnect anytime.

Can I ignore numbers in design - not to send it to translation?

Yes. Go to the plugin settings, check "Ignore nodes with numbers".

Can I ignore specific text in design - not to send it to translation?

Yes. Go to the plugin settings, add prefixes like "_" to ignore. Then rename layers you want to skip with this prefix (example: "_text").

Can I create designs with key names - for developers?

Yes. Connect your strings to keys, then create a page copy with key names instead of translations.

Is it possible to use Plugin in Dev mode?

Yes, the plugin works in Dev mode and it is view only.

When I copy design which has connected keys, will the connection be copied too?

Yes. Connections stay with copied elements. You can disconnect them if needed.

How to use plurals in Figma?

Select text → Go to plugin → String details

Check "is plural" option. Fill all plural forms and choose value which will be shown in Figma.

Hit "Upload" button and plural forms will appear in Tolgee too.

What formatting is supported in the plugin?

You can use the these HTML tags:

  • <b> or <strong> – bold

  • <i> or <em> – italic

  • <u> – underline

  • <br> – line break
