For machine translation providers such as Google Translate, AWS, and DeepL, one credit is approximately equal to one translated character.

For AI Translator and AI Playground, MT credits are calculated based on LLM token usage. You can view the calculation details in the Tolgee app. Learn more in our documentation.

On self-hosted instances, MT credits apply only when using translation providers supplied by Tolgee. You can always use your own API keys for AI translators or standard machine translation providers.

MT credit usage is minimal for most projects, so it rarely has a noticeable impact on your bill.
